The International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders organised, the 20th IFSO World Congress at the Hofburg Imperial Palace in Vienna, Austria, from August 26th – 29th, 2015.
As invited speaker Prof. Dr. Konstantinos M. Konstantinidis Director of General, Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgical Clinic Athens Medical Center, Maroussi, Athens, Greece and other members of his team (P. Hirides MD, PhD, S. Hirides, MD, Msc, FACS, P. Chrysocheris, MD, FACS, F. Antonakopoulos MD), present us the application of robotic sleeve gastrectomy, which potentially facilitate the procedure due to the enhanced visualization and high dexterity of the instruments.
Robotic Sleeve Gastrectomy is a promising approach for an already efficient operation. Strengthening of the staple line takes place much more efficiently thanks to the robotic needle drivers and the superior quality of visual field. Finally, the robot seems to offer a shorter learning curve for younger laparoscopic surgeons.
